Mission to South Africa
News from Grace Place 5 March 2013

February has been a month of many routine things – much paper work getting ready for trip to the States. Kathleen and I are to depart on the 20 March and that date is rolling around fast!

We published the church magazine, The Source for February. Theme is “King of Kings and Lord of Lords”.

I worked on lessons for the children and youth. The method we are using this year so far is that I teach the youth a lesson from the Life of Jesus and His Teachings on Saturday afternoon, then the next Wednesday one of the youth give a condensed and simpler version to the Kid’s Club and the next Saturday morning the Revolution Group get a study with Bibles open on the  same lesson. So far it is working well.

We had lessons on the Baptism of Jesus and His teachings about baptism. At the end of the lesson, 12 of the Revolution group said that they wanted to be baptized. These are from the ages of 9 to 13 and come from non-Christian homes. So, we spent extra time making certain that they understand and this week on Saturday we had 14 from that age group and 3 older guys baptized in a nearby pool near Vaalwater. Shane Dowinton, one of the elders from the church in the country came in to help transport the kids and then led them in prayer with a silent time for confessing to the Lord the sins they were putting behind them. Then Shane, Nick, Godfrey and Thomas got in the pool and baptized them, four at a time. It was a beautiful time!

Please pray for them – Eva, David, Polina, Elsa, Malakia, Sello, Sakaria, Yolinda, Emily, Refilwe, Trostky, Miklaas, Refilwe, Transvaal,  and three older youth - Jack, Philemon, and Jimmy.

Also, two weeks ago we baptized 7 of the older youth; Thomas, Alfred, Johannes, Frans, Martins, Isaac and Stevie. All are taking leadership in the church and with the children.

For those of you who visited the ‘Soup Kitchen’ a few years ago, Polina was the cute little girl about 2 or 3 who came on her own, demanded her sandwich and milk now, then usually fell asleep in the arms of one of the visitors. Many had photos taken with her. She is now 9 years old, shy and serious and very clear in her mind that she wanted to be baptized!  May the Lord continue to keep His protection over her and all of these children and youth.

Please pray for the discipling that will go on during these next two months while I am away. I leave them in good hands with Lance and Jo and with Godfrey and the older youth.

Jo will help with the teaching and organizing of each week’s activities. Lance is a role model for the young men in many ways.

Things are shaping up for our trip and we’re excited. Please pray I get over the after effects of the fall I had about 10 days ago – my dog got overexcited and bumped my knees from behind and I sat down hard. Nothing is broken – just still stiff and sore.
