Mission to South Africa
News from Grace Place 1 July 2015

Marilyn continues in the ministry in which she became involved in 2001 – that of sharing the gospel and a substantial meal with around 500 children in Leseding, the township near her of about 70,000 with approximately 70 per cent unemployment. This began as a ‘soup kitchen’ in which we actually served soup. But when summer came and it was too hot for soup, the menu was changed to peanut butter and jam sandwiches and fresh milk. Lethabo Kid’s Club is where the children know they will hear God’s message, sing praises, and have a substantial meal. You should see them running to get there!

The youth are a special part of her weekly ministry. God is at work in their lives, and many are developing into leaders in His work.

Hospitality has always been a major part of Cook’s ministry and Marilyn continues to host the youth, visiting missionaries, others who have come to help her and work in the ministry. For this, Grace Place, her home is ideal in providing a quiet place to draw near to the Lord and experience His beautiful creation.

“And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.”

Romans 8:26-27

Dear Ones, June has flown by, and it is just over a month until Connie and I are to arrive in the States. This month I have managed to get out the next issue of The Source, If you do get online to read it, I do have a ‘disclaimer’. The scientist who wrote speaks of the Big Bang theory and evolution. While God may have used a ‘big bang’ to begin this world, I certainly do not believe that the account of Creation in Genesis leave any room for the theory of evolution. But, you will notice that the proclamation which the scientists made closes with the slogan we all know so well (though in slightly different words) “In essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, in all things love.” Getting young people into college or some kind of tertiary education has also occupied my time a lot. I think that I mentioned we are setting up an NPO (non-profit organization). We have had several meetings and are about ready to submit the papers for approval. The name we have decided upon is The Kholofelo Association- Kholofelo means hope. A possible motto will be something like ‘Giving Hope to Youth’. We are already supporting 6 young men and one young woman wholly or partially. There are also two high school girls being supported partially as their families can’t afford all the costs. Another one of the youth who has been away studying and is still seeking where the Lord wants him, went to apply for a job driving. As he got there, the man in charge said, “Oh, I’m glad you are here. You can come in and give my staff a reading and prayer before we start the day.” Then he left there and went to an Indian Shop to buy airtime for his phone and was met by the greeting, “Hello, Pastor!” Turns out that Adam has had many thoughts about Bible College and has been pushing them far away – He thinks now that he had better listen to the Lord. Godfrey Lebese, youth pastor and one of my drivers is probably having surgery this week. Please pray for him. He is now heading up the newly formed, lively group called The Ambassadors. As for me, I am fine. Kid’s Club continues with youth leading almost everything. I visited with the driver of the shuttle I took to Joburg and back – he loves the Lord and lives in Leseding. He said, Lethabo Kid’s Club has made a difference in Leseding”. That’s what we pray – that these kids will really come to love the Lord and make an impact on their community. We recently dug out the flannelgraph which we haven’t used in quite a while and Godfrey used it to teach the life of Joseph. About 30 kids from babies to 15 years sat and listened attentively and at the end they applauded! I’m looking forward to our trip to the states and it will be great to have Connie as a traveling companion. She and Morne’ are making an impact where they are ministering! The photos are of the Amabassadors, Godfrey giving the lesson, and a little mother. Thanks so much for your faithful support of the ministry here with the kids, the youth, the destitute we are able to help. Your love and prayers mean so much! The Lord bless you and keep you in His care! Love in Jesus, Marilyn
