The Legacy
The Legacy of Mission to South Africa is in our family. This includes the family of Stuart and Marilyn Cook, but also includes our Christian brothers and sisters who work shoulder to shoulder with us in this ministry. Following are pictures and a brief synopsis of each of these valued members of M2SA.
Marilyn continues with outreach and discipling. The main outreach is through Lethabo Kid’s Club in which 500 to 700 children are fed peanut butter and jam sandwiches and milk every Wednesday. The time begins with joyful singing and then a story told by one of the youth in Sepedi, the language of the children. Our emphasis is on “Jesus loves you” and to teach them to love Jesus – the only hope for most of these children is in knowing and trusting Jesus in this life and knowing that there is a better life to come.
Connie Wicks continues with Aletheia International Ministries in Johannesburg. The ministry provides food and sustenance for several African-led ministries – many of these children have no other source of food all day except what they receive in the pre-school where they spend their days.
Billy and Connie are also in contact with about 20 ministers in the northern Limpopo Province of South Africa where the people have meiliemeal (cornmeal) porridge for their diet. Billy and Connie are passionate about the great need and the need for transport of donated food to these people whose only food for the day may be watered down meiliemeal porridge.
Richard and Cathie also are key persons in South Africa with A World Aware. Cathie is the South African director. For them, this also involves hospitality all through the year for those on short-term mission trips – giving an introduction into South African life and culture in a loving home atmosphere.
Kathleen Cook, my youngest daughter, works in Kid’s Haven as a house mother to 15 teen-age boys. She loves her work and spoiling them with nice food and joining with them in cheering on the current sports team.
